Tumblr seems to be an undiscovered plot of land for most, even though it has grown 900% in the past year. Over 33 million Tumblrs are out there, yet no one seems to really understand how it works or why they should be using it. Although people may assume Tumblr is only used by the younger generation, you may be surprised to find out that 67% of Tumblr is comprised of people between the ages of 18-49.

Let’s start at the basics. According to Wikipedia, “Tumblr is a website and microblogging platform that allows users to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Users can follow other users, or choose to make their tumblelog private. The service emphasizes ease of use. The site ranks as the 10th largest social network with 6.8 million weekly visits.”

Not only could Tumblr be the perfect fit for you, but it may just be the perfect fit for your business, too.

A few reasons why you should have a Tumblr presence:

Short is cool (just like this blog)
Tumblr gives you the option to post long or short posts. Just want to post a photo with a caption or a funny one-liner you heard at work today? Great. Or do you want to post a whole psychoanalysis on why your pet fish always swims to the opposite side of the bowl when you walk up? That’s okay, too. (True Story. Queue
If Tumblr seems right for your business, but you don’t have the manpower or time to post throughout the day, queuing (scheduling your posts) makes it possible to keep your blog active and consistent.

Decor
Tumblr has a range of themes to choose from such as free themes, “yes, this theme costs $50, but it looks like I paid a developer for this” themes, super customizable themes, or “I’m keeping it plain and simple” themes. The themes can showcase text if that’s what you want to highlight or it can feature photos and more color if that’s your focus. Tumblr makes it easy to tailor your blog the way you want it.

I just created a Tumblr in the same amount of time it took to write this blog
Yes, I easily created a Tumblr, as soon as I finished this blog. After writing and researching it, why wouldn’t I want to be a part of a social network that has grown 900% in one year?
