Objective-C: iPhone: RSSLib

By Brandon Prudent - March 17th, 2010

It's silly that the iPhone SDK does not come with an RSS reader, and shocking that the XML parser is crippled by lack of DOM parsing. SAX parsing is faster, but for most RSS feeds I'd consider the savings neglible. On 3g I can kind of see the point, but why not leave that to the developer, instead of removing functionality?

Git: git-deploy

By Brandon Prudent - February 8th, 2010

Fortunately git is easy to extend. I'd like to share a very short but useful git extension with you: git-deploy. If you didn't know, git can easily be extended by having an executable on your path with the git- prefix. Therefore, an executable file named git-cats can be invoked via git cats, git-scrub via git scrub and so forth.

PHP: The Ninja Controller

By Brandon Prudent - January 14th, 2010

That's right, a ninja controller. It lurks in the shadows and strikes first on each request. The ninja travels with few supplies. This example is under 50 lines. This very simple concept should dramatically decrease the amount of repetitive code in your next PHP app.

Flex: Time Entry Component

By Brandon Prudent - May 1st, 2009

Date and time manipulation is rarely a fun job. Adobe didn't make things any easier by not including a simple time picker with the standard distribution. Fortunatlely creating a component to do this is a relatively easy job.

Check out the Carousel30 time picker control below with a word of caution: this component has not been used on any production system, and only tested at the most rudimentary levels. In other words, use at your own risk. Right-click for source code.

Welcome

By Brandon Prudent - June 30th, 2008

I must admit I'm not much of a "blogger". My upcoming posts will be related entirely to the joys and sorrows of web, desktop, and mobile development from a technical perspective. I will try to keep it brief and to the point. I will try to keep it updated monthly. Most of all, I will try to keep the posts relevant and easy to digest.
